Upside down, seems to be developing into some kind of theme for me at the moment...
So a little more about my weekend is in order:
Friday night was super-ace fun. Hugo's Speaker Palace is always a great venue, run by a lovely man named Hugo, funnily enough. It's kind of a warehouse space in possibley the dodgiest street in Hackney, more often roped-off with police cordons than not. Speakers everywhere, of course. It's illegal, so he runs a little bar that's super-cheap and they're not stingey on the measures.
Jem's band 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' played, and they rocked - 'Who put the Cunt in Cuntrey' being my favourite. Next was Hugo's band 'Princess Superstar', and they did their usual crazy-ass stuff. THEN, Marseille Figs played a beautiful blues-and-grass-soaked set, finishing up with the finicular song, which we all merrily jigged along to.
At the beginning of the evening Trine and I dj'ed back to back, and that was so fun. I don't think I've ever felt so comfortable playing, the crowd were so great, up dancing from the very beginning. And there were SO MANY, the place was packed. So fun. Later in the night I got up again on my own, played for I don't know how many hours, maybe 3? At 6:30 in the AM we staggered back to D&T's in the rain and ate toast and said "That was great!" over and again.
Slept fitfully for a couple of hours then got up and made breakfast for us all, bacon, eggs, special beans, haloumi, and some parsley on the side for greens. Breakfast is my specialty.
[*NOTE: a story for another time about 'Will you still love me tomorrow' being my song. Breakfast my specialty... what a tramp.]
Hung about at D&T's for a bit then headed home and straight out again for the Crisis Volunteers Christmas Party. (I worked at the Crisis centre on Xmas, it was the best Xmas for years, possibly ever, so many nice people.)
At the party ran into Clarity, who very soon decided it was her mission to get me and Chas together that night. And she did it in such a brilliant and subtle way. She waited about half an hour and then bet me 5 to snog him that night. To which I said "You're on!". Basically she got me over any kind of bashful waiting in the wings and made me do it.
I'm not sure if I can or should recount the whole thing here, but some highlights will do it:
Flirtation and lots of beer. An explainable chemistry. A beautiful and sensuous dance to 'Upside Down' (see? and so appropriate too...) Chas getting drunk and insisting he had to go home with someone else. Lovely sweet Richard engingeering it so that we were left alone. Chas stumbling drunk and being stroppy about having lost his phone and jacket. Getting Chas home and being pissed off that he was so stroppy, and now snoring in my bed. Chas waking me up for 4 hours of some pretty amazing sex, interspersed with some of the best hugs I've ever had. Waking up (again) with Chas between my legs. A morning of talking and promises. A walk to the train station and a Bloody Mary before the train came.
I do think this man is special. Trying not to freak out about it.
So he lives outside of London, and I've got an invitation to go visit this weekend. Time will tell!

Carl's reply, and my feeling right now: "i was unavoidably detained."
i've been so freakin' busy the last 4 days--a rush of creative pursuits at work that have left me drained, helping my friend move her belongings and, today, checking her into drug rehab. whew.
i remain drained this evening, with another day just like today in store tomorrow.
i don't mind in the least that you've investigated who i am by reading journals. i do the same with new "friends" and it's led to deeper and more meaningful communication. it's also led to snappier conversation, too, because we've gotten a sense of what's allowable and what's not--such as discussion of your effect on my trousers.
i'm much better aware today of who i am. there's more to that story, but i think my journal a couple days ago explains the why. i've quite simply stepped out of my own limitations as i worked to become less of an introvert.
more or less....
what a party life you live. i couldn't keep up with that. not in the least!
i really like how you write about your friends - tis really nice and warm
oh yes, i had a weekend too, didnt i? not that you needed or wanted to know, but like you i think I'm getting quite hooked on this place! - writing things I havent a clue who it is going to be read by..
my weekend was spent..mincing, to be honest, catching up on reading, films, beavering through music, rediscovering songs - stuff like that. went to the saatchi gallery on saturday, and then the plan was a wander down the river, but it was so cold and windy that I decided to save my ears!
i'm off the alcohol for a couple of weeks. i'd like to say that its for financial reasons, but i brought so much back with me after xmas, that its no excuse!
xmas was unusually messy, and february/march sees the 'season of birthdays' - that period of the year where everyone seems to have their birthdays withing a 4 week period, so just thought i'd take it easy..
cheers for the friend request, too
toodles
