Thanksgiving... Mixed bag of feelings.
I have things to be thankful for, yes. I have two amazing children. I have a small handful of friends I know will be there in a moment if shit hits the fan. I have a job. I have a home. I'm still breathing.
But, unfortunately, Thanksgiving for me marks "The Beginning of the Suck". Some of you may remember the several months of "Wow, can it really get worse? Oh, I guess it can..." that began with my girlfriend moving out and leaving me, continued with my moving, my children moving to San Francisco, giving up my dogs (one of which was subsequently put to sleep) and all ended with my father dying. It all began on just before Turkey Day last year. Yay me.
So, today I try to look on the bright side. Because, as you know, Life's a piece of shit, when you look at it... Monty Python references end now...
So, here's to new beginnings. A life worth living. And coming home alive.
That last part is in reference to the fact that next May will more than likely find me somewhere very warm. While I wear camouflage. And carry a gun...
Just sayin

American troops would probably be withdrawn before that happened, though.
Even so, as you say, it's still dangerous.
