I have been waiting for today for the last seven weeks... ever since picking up a flyer in my local Waterstone's Bookstore telling me that Simon Callow would be signing copies of his autobiography "My life in pieces" at 1pm today.
When I initially checked the date in my diary, I was distraught to find that I had already agreed to hear a series of appeal cases this week which meant I wouldn't be able to attend.
But last week, to my immense delight, I was told that there were a number of cases which had been withdrawn and that I would indeed be free today so I could go along after all!
There aren't very many actors whom I admire sufficiently that I would be so ridiculously eager to meet, but Simon Callow is one of the few...
I first remember seeing him as Theodore Kempe in The Wolvercote Tongue, in the blockbuster Amadeus and even more recently as Charles Dickens in Doctor Who!
So I set out in plenty of time this morning to ensure I could be there for 1pm - I don't think I have ever had so many things go wrong in one day which all conspired to ensure that by the time I got to the bookstore just after 1.30pm, he had gone
There were still a few signed (but obviously not dedicated) copies remaining and I bought one, but I feel so disappointed and deflated after so looking forward to meeting the man himself...
All in all, it's been that sort of week - My neighbours complained about my putting food out for the wild birds and yesterday hefted part of a brick at my kitchen window. The Parliamentary Ombudsman confirmed no action would be taken against North West Ambulance Service for refusing me an ambulance in December 2008 after I was knocked down crossing the road (they said 'sorry' and apparantly, that was enough). I had eventually been taken to hospital in the back of a police car after the fourth time the police officer asked for an ambulance for me and was refused! I heard from my lawyer today that the latest offer from the insurers regarding my near fatal car crash in 2006 is reasonable - it's anything but reasonable, but hey, I'm just the person who was nearly killed so what would I know! Several of my dearly loved plants are dying and I've no idea why; I've been in heaps of pain for most of the week as a consequence of the injuries from the first car crash and I'm wondering how much worse it's going to get and I suppose I'd better stop there.
I keep hoping that one day, maybe, just maybe, something nice will happen...
