Life sure can be interesting, loyalty and dedication come with a price.
I was contacted last week by a recruitment agency on behalf of a rather well known chef here in the UK and possibly most everywhere to join a new venture he's launching in central London next month as the Head Chef.
I was a bit taken by surprise, I only started at the current place three months ago but took the time on Friday to at the very least listen to the proposal from the head-hunter.
It was good, about the same I'm on now but the opportunity to work alongside a very high profile chef. I said I'd take the weekend to think about it and get back to him early this week. But today he phoned me while I was on a train back from Buckinghamshire, where I went to this morning for menu deployment and training.
I'm very dedicated and loyal, I was at my last place for eight years, through thick and thin, I've only been at my new kitchen for three months and it would be unfair on my colleagues and minions if I left now just as we are starting to get things to work nicely.
So i turned down the offer to work with Jamie Oliver.
C'est la vie.
The head-hunter commended my decision for the reasons I gave but asked me to forward my CV to him anyway so that he could keep it on file in case something came along in the future or I wanted something new.
Probably kick myself for my decision in the short term but hey, loyalty is more important to me than prestige and I'm well aware the company I currently work for probably wouldn't reciprocate my loyalty, my Sous Chef (second in command) has been offered a position with his old company and I pretty much told him to take it as the package is better, my General Manager is also leaving for greener pastures and he was the main reason I left my last kitchen to join this company. I will just stick it out
No time for regrets, they just slow you down.
Other than that, business as usual.
Edit: Removed this part because it doesn't matter
Love this band, love this song
Ooh, beginning of this month was 14 months clean and clear \o/
