Hey SG
This week and last weeks blog homework from @charmaine and @lyxzen was "What is your favorite book/author?" and "Show us your fall pictures!"
Let me start with my favorite book.....I'm going to remove the obvious books of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and the like and really go to a book that stands out in such a way that it's actually impacted my life. The book is called "House of Leaves." And considering it's fall, it kind of fits into that well.
House of Leaves was originally just a bunch of bundled papers and notes that made no sense and was passed around in small groups of tattoo artists, artists, book clubs....it was only recently put into book form and made public. The thing about this book is that it's not just a book. You can't just read it from cover to cover....the book will affect you mentally and even physically at times.
It starts off normal enough(other than the first line of the book being on it's own page in which it says "This is not for you")....with a family moving into a house on Ash Lane....when they realize their house is bigger on the inside than the outside (no, it's not the Tardis or Dr. Who ;) ). Closets appear with long hallways, rooms shift and the way it's written makes you feel like you're really there. The children end up getting lost and all your hear are their voices echoing in the home. However, as you read, the story begins to change...you're all of a sudden reading from a different perspective...and sometimes a completely different story.
There are pages in the book in which you have to read in a mirror, upside down or even break a code to understand it. You can't just read this book, you have to take notes.....while I was reading it (btw, I've never finished it....many people are that way....it can take months, or even years to get through this book) I wrote TONS of notes down, even directly on the books pages....and that's something I NEVER do....write in a book with ink?!! NO WAY! But this book almost asks you to do it. It's so peculiar and strange that you literally have to do it to understand the words.
It is a terrifying story. Plain and simple. There is no book like it....AT ALL.
My book is ripped, the pages have been turned back and forth so many times that they are worn and wrinkled. The edges of my book look like they have been through hell and back....NONE of my books look this way...but this book requires it. If you read no other book this year....please make it this one....if you dare :)
As far as fall photos...I'm just going to share with you some of my favorite photos of this time of year. I love wearing big sweaters when the weather gets colder. We don't get season changes here....the leaves don't brown and we don't get the "real" feeling of fall except for the rainy days when it's a little chilly and we can bundle up with our blankets and warm clothes...Oh and beanies!! I love wearing beanies! :) So I like to overcompensate by wearing nice comfy warm clothes ^.^
