This new site....ugh...I like a lot of stuff but also hate a lot of stuff. Since the release of the new site I've began to notice a trend with a lot of newer members...mostly newer hopefuls. It seems it has become a "contest" to see who can get the most followers. It's turning into instagram. These newer girls are following a whole bunch of random members and when the members follow back, the girls unfollow them....just to gain a follower. I've had numerous girls follow me and then if I don't follow back they just unfollow me. If I do follow back, they still unfollow me.
What happened to the "friendships" SG? I liked that so much better since both parties had to approve. People didn't just "follow" you, they actually had to commit to sending you a request, and it was more personal in my opinion. Now this whole social media stuff has taken over...the sense of community is GONE. And this followers thing is really driving me up the wall.
I actually just went through my list....I just followed all the people who regularly talk to me, comment on blogs, like photos and such. I've read their blogs, looked at their pictures and actually wanted to see if they share common interests with me. I don't just follow people for the heck of it. I DO however almost always follow other hopefuls and SGs back out of respect and courtesy. We are all here to support each other as women and I feel by getting involved and being respectful to other girls is a good way to do that. However, I am now changing that. If I notice a girl just following a whole bunch of people...I am not going to follow back. I will wait it out, actually see if she is posting things of interest or if she's just posting Vagina pics to gain followers.....that is not why I'm here. Or even to see if she unfollows me because I didn't follow her back right away.
Sadly this epidemic is out of control. There have been numerous posts from hopefuls entitled "How do I get more followers?" etc etc. Followers are nothing but a number..so much of it gets lost in the feed anyway. Being active, posting in groups, responding to comments and messages....that's what counts....and I have met some very cool people doing so.
So girls, lets put an end to this competition. This isn't instagram, no one cares how many followers you have.....just be kind, supportive and friendly to others. By following and unfollowing you are just making yourself look bad. But of course....that's just my opinion.
