I got a call from someone with whom I used to go to high school. He tried convincing me to join in on what was clearly a pyramid scheme. Of course I turned the offer down. I couldn't help but feel kinda bad for him though. Calling someone you haven't spoken to since high school (which was five years ago) and asking them to get in on a scam like that clearly shows the direction his life went. I'd try to hook him up with a contracting gig or try to set him up with another respectable job but I'm afraid he'd take offense. I just think people should contribute to society rather than take advantage of the freedoms it offers. I'm not short-sighted enough to think it's entirely his fault he's in that situation...I won't begin to try an tackle all the socioeconomic complexities facing our nation...but at the same token, he is (or was I suppose) a middle-class white guy from what was recently listed the 24th best place to live in the country by Money Magazine (Fishers, IN)...what more of an advantage did he need? I can't help but think of how many other people who are probably in much more need of help and how I should be concerned about them and not this dude who probably did end up in this situation through his own shortcomings. My friends say I'm giving this way too much thought, and I agree. Then again, my ex-girlfriend (who I helped through the loss of her sister and a drug addiction) just gave me a mix cd that ends with the song "Fix You" by Coldplay with a little note saying that was my "theme song." So fuck, if I don't at least offer some help to this guy I'd be letting down her by not living up to the image of me she holds in such high regard. So that's that, I'm the good guy and so I'm gonna try to help the bastard out. And because I fucking love that song now...
When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Tears stream down your face
when you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I
Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
