Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night falls on the 5th November.
Guy Fawkes was born in York in 1570, he was an English Catholic who also fought for the Spanish.
On 5th November 1605 Guy Fawkes was arrested while guarding explosives which had been placed beneath the House of Lords. He was a member of the Gunpowder Plot, a group of Catholics who's intension was to assassinate the Protestant King James and his Parliament. He was arrested and his fellow conspirators rounded up and eventually executed for Treason.
To celebrate that the King had survived, bonfires were lit around London.
Nowadays bonfires are lit on 5th November, mainly large public displays but bonfires are also lit on private land and in people's gardens. There are also Firework displays.
