ok we have a new cordless phone. it has a built in answering machine. the womans voice is VERY sweet and polite saying 'hello we arent home at the mo....." anyways my mum just calls and says(drunk) 'whos voice is that'?
i say ' its the answering machine'
she says ' oh i new it couldnt be you as it was too lady like'
then expecting her to laugh SHE DOSNT!!
my stupid mother always talks to me like this. puts me down in little pissy ways. i know its not the worst comment ive had in my life BUT FUCK!!! shes my mum and its constant.
the thing is she married a TRUCK DRIVER that she didnt love they both swore like there was no tomorrow they had an abusive relationship and they were both drunks didnt care if we (5 kids)were educated or not (SHE SAYS SHE WAS GLAD IF WE WENT FURTHER THEN HER AND THAT WAS 6TH GRADE)
so how dare she put ME down
the thing is she dosnt understand why im not a 'lady'

thats sad that your Mum is like that Mandy, I can't say that I relate but still I can empathise, my Dad used to put me down quite a bit when I was a kid but when I became an adult he realised that he had done wrong by us and has had to deal with that and it has been hard for him, he did apolagise to me once in a very long letter and it was heart felt and sincer, so don't give up on your Mum Mandy you never know she may realise her mistake one day. Either way I am sure she loves you and may just find it hard to show it.
