Last weekend went to new paltz ny to a may day festival with the kiddos. We had such a fun time. My middle son, almost four danced with a giant puppet of the old wise woman.
We also had an amazing encounter with an 8 ft albino burmese python. I never knew that snakes could be so affectionate. The kids all loved to pet it, even little Quinn who is not yet 2. I put my hand out to it and she placed her head right in my palm and looked up at me. Wow, it was an amazing moment to connect with a big ass snake like that. Somehow very profound.
I enjoyed wataching the kids dance around the maypole. I like them to have these experiences of anciant rights even if they don't understand that the symbolism of the pole and ribbons is all about the male/ female unity and creation of new life. I beleive it registers deeply even wthout the concious knowledge.
It feels good to give them connections to the old ways that teach respect for the natural cycles and how they guide our own experience. Especially in this culture that has come so far from harmony with nature.
Also we have been gardening, planting flower beds and now waiting for the dirt to fill the raised beds for the veggie garden.
I love the spring.

Looks like we're both one in a million!
