Hello everyone) on the eve of Halloween, I'd like to write the last few blogs on "terrible" theme from our wonderful
@MISSY @CHARMAINE and
@RAMBO
So, the first theme of "if I believe in superstition and what kind." I'm a skeptic by nature and do not believe in the mystical horrors and phenomena, but living in the Ukraine and being Polish girl on nationality, lives in me Slavic belief in miracles and mysticism different. Sometimes I'm afraid to be alone in the house autumn evenings at home. In the dense twilight I sometimes mereschatsya shadows. Apparently, I live in the faith of my ancestors in the brownies. which may be evil or good spirits. Now I have moved into the house of the old buildings. Sometimes it seems to me that, in the basement of someone scratching softly and sighs) This is most likely a pipe heating system works, but I shudder and take a cat on my hands)
I believe that animals have mystical properties. For example, they can see ghosts or similar mystical nonsense. My grandmother told me that when she was little and lived in the village, the dog growled at night in the same corner of the room, as if there was someone. My grandmother lived a long time in the Urals in Russia, and there went the legend about werewolves who steal small children and good forest spirits that return to their parents.
So I grew up in numerous legends and scary even though my education and atheism, still lives in me at the subconscious fear of the other world.
The next topic that I want to touch on in this blog is the "horror stories". In the Ukraine, from the existence of many legends and dowry from the existence of mystical and scary creatures that walk around the woods, live in swamps and sometimes come to people. I would like to acquaint you with Ukrainian culture in anticipation of Halloween):
1. Dogheads a sibling or even a prototype known in different cultures werewolf (the werewolf, shifter, okrutnik, vovkulaka, lycanthrope, werewolves). But, unlike the werewolf pesigolovets probably does not have the ability to transform from human to animal and vice versa.
In oral evidence is described as being very tall (over 2.5 meters), often one-eyed, an unusually strong and ferocious. Some sources say that in the vicinity of the Carpathian villages Dogheads stealing cattle, killing villagers, witchcraft and sometimes had sex with ordinary women. In most of the written documents of the last century with Dogheads meeting people registered as common.
2. Odmina. According to Ukrainian folk beliefs, spoofed devil or witch child. For Odminu consider child clamorous, bad and ugly. There is a story that one woman, on the advice of traditional healers, made Odminu on weedy places and became flog his broom. The witch brought then kidnapped the child and took her. To prevent theft of the child, lit a candle in the night from birth to his baptism. Such beliefs are also found among the Russians, Poles, Czechs, Latvians and many other nations. And in Germany fear that the newborn was not kidnapped by evil spirits. In England in the XVI century. was prevalent belief in the possibility of substitution of the child elf.
3.Snarky,
Sinister - in Ukrainian mythology evil spirits, the little creatures who, settling behind the stove (both houses), remain invisible and bring home unhappiness. Ukrainian and Belarusian proverbs and sayings mention Snarky in context, usually to the ancient mythological characters
Snarky have vaguely - round shape, or it is invisible little old man - poor, or they have a view of the old, evil and nasty woman. The man, who had settled in the house Snarky never get out of poverty. Usually their is twelve; Sinister live behind the stove or under it, lives Snarky, like their owner, is very bad. Snarky can get rid of cheating when running for his master Snarky asked to sniff snuff, put them in a snuff box, and bury them; planted in a barrel, so they were roomier, and take in the open field, etc. Freed from Sinister man quickly gets richer, and invaded the house, where they live Snarky wallowing in poverty. If someone out of pity for Sinister or envy to liberate Snarky grown rich from prison, they pounce and cling longer restrained.
Not to bring into the house of evil individuals, we can not sweep with a broom from the threshold, and if the place of the floor to the door, you can sweep Snarky of the hut. Snarky can kill a stake (and other evil spirits), followed by throwing them into a quagmire and plug in Snarky count, but if the number of pull, Snarky again live. Snarky often mentioned in curses
4.Blaznya (mana, confusion)
Delusion, a ghost. It may seem anywhere: at home, in the woods, in a field. Neither blaznya not without participation of evil spirits, which dulls the mind of man, making visible what is not really. Realizing that vision in front of him, a ghost, a person still can not get rid of the obsessive way. Blazni happen in homes where there was a quarrel. After the master of the house shouting match with someone, blaznya starts jibe shelves, dishes, everything takes off from the table. From blazney no great harm except fright, first shock, bewilderment and anxiety.
5.Ghoul (leaning, vampire) - dead man who allegedly comes from the grave to suck the blood of the living. Ukrainian mythological legends depict the image of the vampire as a senior witch. His image is found in Ukrainian literature, particularly in works Kotlyarevskyi, Franko, Kotsyubinsky, Lesia Ukrainka and others.
Ghoul approximates vampires in European mythology and has a lot to do with vampires in Eastern Slavic tradition, but in the XIX century. these characters are differentiated (section).
There are several options for treatment of this image. According to some views, the ghoul is the son of the devil and witches. He lives like a normal person, but differs from the other angrily. According to other beliefs, vampires have only the human form, but in essence they are real devils.
There is a belief that vampires - is the corpses of witches and others, in which devils inhabit after death and lead them in motion. Ghouls can be any person, if it oveet prairie wind. Their appearance ghoul may not differ from the ordinary people or differ very ruddy complexion. Sometimes ghouls believe children (with a large head, long arms and legs) that can predict the future.
Quite often, people's imagination shares ghouls into two groups: the living and the dead. Characteristic features of the dead vampires is that they have a red face, which is returned in a coffin down. Dead ghoul never decomposes.
Alive ghoul also has a red face and a very strong constitution that is necessary for him to carry on his back a dead vampire. Dead without a living can not be harmful, because he is unable to walk.
A. Afanasyev claims that vampires - a wandering evil dead who were living with wizards, vampires or people who do not take the church / murderers, heretics, apostates /. At night the ghouls rise from their graves and walk the world. They walk into the house, attack the sleepy people / more - on babies / and suck blood, causing the person dies. They can roam the earth until the singing of the first cocks and then rush to their graves. To get rid of the ghouls, people dug their graves and the dead man pierced breasts aspen stake. If this fails, the corpse was burned. Ghouls considered a cause of drought, poor harvests and epidemics. In Ukrainian demonology ghoul is a symbol of evil, death, disaster, epidemics and natural disasters.
Ghouls thought some historical figures. For example, the general notation V. Borkowski thought vampires, so struck aspen stake. In the future, this event was depicted on the walls of Trinity Cathedral in Chernigov.
These were some of the characters from the terrible Ukrainian legends. Given that each village has its own witch, Ukraine is truly a country of mysticism! In ngashih forests still inhabited Mavka and Sprites) So be careful when you visit Ukraine ...
with your love Ukrainian witch Malwina!
