Things I hate, New Orleans/ Katrina

Since its been a year now, I feel nothing but anger toward the whole New Orleans debacle. These are my thoughts in random order.

- I hate that the Federal Gov. took to long.

- I hate that a city that is below sea level had no evacuation plan, or where unable to execute it. They have been talking...

All very good points that I could more than likely acknowledge in public without personal conflict. Damn, I could have said that in two words. I agree.

Only if I get to carry your bag on your first big London assignment..... smile

I'm still sore about losing that big DC job.

Are you planning some aerial photography? I've done quite a bit over London and Power Stations and stuff, always from helicopters though.....I could lend you my chopper.. biggrin

These were all from 700 ft.
ndarwin:
I understand now what you're trying to do, very cool little angle if you can crack the logistical problems, I have seen a pneumatic pole that rises from a trailer that you attach to the back of your car, this thing rises pretty high and gives an aerial style shot.

The helicopter for the above cost 940/hour because it had to be twin motor to fly over th city and it came with the relevant shooting permits, lovely machine though.

Do "Officals" get payed more or just get more work?

I'm not going to answer this there... but I would guess that the answer to that question is not a matter of public policy. It'll be interesting to see if you get any answers.... confused

I stopped into a gallery today to check in, and had the plesure of meeting one of my favorite photographers of all time Gregory Heisler. He's a real "photographers" photographer, he can do any thing. Any who its cool to meet a foto-hero who turns out to be pretty cool too...

I didn't know this guy, I love the flash lit divers pic, he's certainly Mr Portrait.

I have never been to DC, I am going to add some travel days onto the end of my next job in NYC and go visit some friends in different US cities, I would love to come meet you for a few days smile

I met Elliott Erwitt once who was a big influence on me and I said 'Oh Mr Erwitt you've changed my life!' which I am subsequently pretty embarassed about blush

Nice fotos! That's one crazy building; I'd move in there but my chandelier has too short of a chain.

Good seeing you crazy kids out and about. We'll have to consume some culture--or ethanol--in the near future.
leica:
That is beautiful.

Thanks for your encouragement, I have always believed that maintaining faith in a project or idea over the duration of its execution is one of the hardest aspects of being a creative person, there is always this little voice saying 'your wasting your time, nobody will be interested', so thanks for bolstering my faith in this one, it means a lot to get a little positive feedback.

I like your manipulation of the depth of field in the Darfur Rally pictures, unusual in documentary style work.
ndarwin:
I remember reading the Biography of Mark Rothko who basicaly painted these huge abstract color fields for decades and then comitted suicide in his studio one day in his late fifities I think, basically lost his faith in the work he had spent a lifetime doing.

Projects are good though, I always like to have several on the go because you can get bored with one and work on another for a while, they are good for getting your work published too.
