On New Year's Eve I got to try Rock Band on the 360, and managed to adapt to using the guitar controller to play bass, sometimes even on medium (though it varies tremendously by song). I had enough fun with this that I wanted to play it again, a lot. But I wanted to play it from the ground up - the band world tour profile we were using at the party had already done a lot of the content and was more likely to lose things like fans than gain them with our inexperienced butts playing. Tonight I got my chance to start. My brand new profile on their machine is now the band leader for Dr. Agony (thank you, random name generator, you are awesome), a skinny, tall bassist with long white hair, name of Kurt.
And the more experienced players have adopted roles they don't normally play (the guy who owns the game and can do guitar on expert is doing vocals, the guy who can sometimes do vocals on expert is playing drums and guitar alternately...), rendering the game enjoyable for them without my easy-playing self dragging them down. We're going to start playing regularly next Monday.
