Well, I was right. Thursday did suck. Not so much in terms of what I did, since I managed to entertain myself passably, but I was definitely not at all well all day. Fortunately by Friday things had mostly cleared up, save a lingering sore throat. Called in sick just to be sure, though. And as this point I'm feeling right as rain.
Saw Grindhouse on the Ultrascreen over in Oakdale today. I didn't really have high expectations going in. Well, any expectations, really, since I'd heard the name and not much more. It's a heck of a lot of fun, as it turns out. Rodriguez's movie, "Planet Terror" is hysterically silly and not a little gross. Definitely hits that grindhouse spot. Tarantino's "Death Proof"....eh. I normally like Tarantino's films a lot, and I didn't *dislike* this one, but after the riproaring action and sidesplitting ludicrousness of Planet Terror it just didn't click with me. I mean, his dialogue's still sharp, and Kurt Russell does a great turn as the psychopath, but the movie structure is kind of disjointed and the pacing awkward. There's a bit where he ends one section of the movie and moves on to a different but linked story and I think it would have been a lot more effective if he'd kept on in the vein of the first part. Oh well.
Oh, and the fake trailers are pretty great too.
