"The Notorious Bettie Page" was great! My wife has a bonner for Bettie Page, so I thought it would be an automatic request for me to be dragged to see this film. However, when I brought up the possibility of seeing it together, she merely shrugged it off. I was a little surprised. Ms. Page isn't my cup of tea (I'd crawl over her to get to Meg Myles, to be blunt), but I soon became interested in seeing it when I learned that Mary Harron was directing it. She, of course, brought to the public a little twisted masterpiece called "American Psycho". My loyalty to her thus established, I began to look forward to seeing "The Notorious Bettie Page". And, I did. Yup... I mean, duh. I'm writing some stupid review as of right now, doofus. It was beautiful. The movie, that is. Black and white scenes for the dreary life of Tennessee and New York offset by eye searing, perfectly realized Technicolor retro-cinematography for the sun-drenched Miami scenes. Gretchen Mol was a little too fetching to represent Ms. Page in my book, but I already detailed my poor opinion of the classic pin-up. Otherwise, Ms. Mol was perfectly cast and her performance had no moment of stumbling. Good shit. Er, sorry. So much for proffesionalism. Oh, fuck it. There, I said it Anyway, the story is what sealed the deal in this picture. It wasn't judgmental or overtly critical of any point-of-view or opinion. True, the religious followers were corny and the political porn-hunters were typically self-righteous, but that can be forgiven. As a whole, this film was a great ride. Do yourself a favor and shoot yourself in the head. I mean, watch this movie. Heh... Sorry about that suicide allusion got a little crazy for a second there
