Well... the New Orleans trip is finalized. We are (sigh) driving down the last week of May. Yes, for those of you in the audience keeping count, that's 18 hours each way, and a total of something like 2300 miles. I'm glad we'll be taking R's car. But anyway, for everyone who would ever like to go to New Orleans, the Queen and Crescent hotel is charging us a mere $60 a night. That's right, even after parking charges, we're staying a week in New Orleans for less than $400. Well, plus eight billion in gas. Thanks, foreign, fiscal, and monetary policies! I guess it's still cheaper than flying, though. And hey, if we wanna see the world's biggest ball of twine, or that baseball that some guy has been adding a layer of paint to every day for 37 years that's now like 3 tons, those options are wide open. Such is the freedom of the highway.
I ran into high school people today. They're getting married. This kinda weirds me out a little. Partly because the girl is one I really had a crush on back in the day, but mostly because it makes me feel old. Matt and Fallon are getting married (I really like the name "Fallon," by the way), J has a kid... Ugh. The most annoying part about those is that both are sort of premature. They kid was unintentional, and the engagement came after a month of dating. (My personal opinion is that that bodes ill for the marriage, but since I haven't really known either of them for years, I can't seriously predict anything one way or the other. Not to say that will keep me from my wild extrapolation, though...)
On a related note, I'm kinda intrigued to go to my 5-year high school reunion, which should be some time this year... Apparently some of the valedictorian types are now pothead hippies, one girl I used to hang out with has a kid, quite a few people I knew are engaged... I could almost wish I still kept in touch with the high school world.
Almost.
(edit: ) I submitted a news story! Look at me, all having points and stuff. Of course, at this rate, if I had started around the fall of the Roman Empire, I'd just now be earning my free trip to LA to meet Missy.
