So, yeah. Didn't get that job. I have "excellent techincal skills, but insufficient enthusiasm." Personally, I think that's fucking stupid (I guess I'm biased, though), since the job about techical skills first and foremost, and also because according to the recruiter their major piece of evidence for this lack is that I didn't have a long list of features that I thought ought to be added to their application. Personally, I think feature creep is a blight on software design, and 90% of people don't use 90% of the stuff their programs do anyway. Oh well. On the plus side, they were right by a Newbury Comics, so I browsed that a bit after the interview and got some good CDs: Regina Spektor (Soviet Kitsch), Boris (Rainbow), and Gogol Bordello (Gypsy Punk).

Meanwhile, as far as job prospects go, I guess I'm back to those people in New York who seem hell-bent on setting me up with the finance industry. I'm not incredibly excited at the prospect of working for an investment bank in the abstract, but as the place I interviewed at back in July showed, there are certainly some that are great places to work.

In the mean time, I need to renew my passport. Still planning on skipping the country should I not find work by January...
