1. Walking down a jetway to board a flight is not a good time to think about the 3 major airplane accidents in the past 2 weeks. I had 4 flights last week, so plenty of time to reflect. I want to ask if the oxygen tanks are full before we depart.

2. I'm in the middle of a work project which seems to have...

This was a week of movement and energy, occasionally feeling that portions were beneficially shot at 120 frames per second: infinite-loop images of cornfields and collieries drifting past the train window, taxi horns blending with many foreign voices in a crowded street-market illuminated by flashes of neon, a neat patch-work of farms snuggled against the North Atlantic on the west coast of Ireland viewed from...

ahhh yes more self love
More Metta
more being suprized at all that unfolds before me and within me as I continue to be amazed
learning to be curious and notice and not have to do much more than that
life does have a way of happening
no matter what we think we are doing with it
it will be as it will be
and thats all we can know for sure
Except of course its eventual transformation/end and impermanence......
Today thats a blesing to remember

I guess the rain adds to the drama of the battlefield scenes. I just watched Apocalypse Now:
This is my Camera
There are many like it, but this one is mine
My Camera is my best friend
It is my life
I must master it as i must master my life
Without me my Camera is useless
Without my Camera i am useless
I am married to this machine of metal and glass
And i will be faithful
I must pull focus true
I must keep my equipment in good shape
I must keep the gate clean
I will
Before god i swear this creed
My DoP and myself are defenders of asthetics
We are the masters of the picture
We are the saviours of this shooting
So be it
Until there is no shooting but wrap
Amen.

Sisyphus indeed
and to many the difference in the way we sell our souls ( mine anyway) by sitting inside a building of glass and steel in a city of concrete and asphalt must seem equally mystifying.
Yet how many can claim happiness amidst the passing and goings of our day?
How many readily admit and share their satisfaction of what they have to offer?
I feel like I am just getting there and enjoying the roll down the hill.
The push has been long and not without ardor but the air passing by as my rock tumbles is refreshing and sweet to notice.
Thanks for sharing the vivid accounts of your travels.
Its a welcome window
Cheers and thanks for remembering my b-day!
You are more considerate than all the Blokes I once called Beaus.
Seems as though none of them were/are able to remember it.
Whats up with that?!
I think it says more about me unfortunately.
Time to make better choices I say.
So I hope you have a happy one and treat yourself to what makes you happy.
Enjoy

Notes from the road:

1. A waitress will instinctively give the dinner bill to the person wearing shoes.

2. If one can out-drink the owner of the restaurant, dinner is free.

3. If a woman on the street says "hello" in English, and they are wearing glasses and generally opaque clothing, they are probably a student at a famous university. If neither of the above...

Well, more than control, professionalism, and the forethought of the rights contract (which I hope I do have...), it's the knowledge that you can punch honest people in the face if they deserve it. But scum needs to be treated differently.

I just read your entry in DitaMoon's journal. "(1.4 billion people and no good bakeries, which sucks)"
As you know: China is short on anything, except people...

I wish you all the best for your China trip and that you get to see more than the airport, your hotel and some conference rooms... What kind of project is it? Are you allowed to talk?

Well, the DoP gig worked out fine technically. Problem was, that the guys from the TV station financing us, always had something to complain about. We tried to exclude them as much as possible, but they still managed to fuck up the movie.
The director and me will shoot this thing again in july. This time the way we want it to be. At the moment I'm in the process of aquiring filmstock and a camera. I've got a chance to get a 535B for free, which would be really nice.

How are you doing lately?
coretic:
"Roam the city at night, cool and free, right?"
Right, Sir!
We should meet for a coffee at midnight, complain about our jobs, that we need to work on stupid projects to finance the good stuff. And then feel like kings when walking home in the morning, while "ordinary" people are on their ways to their offices, factories or where ever else they waste their lifes away only dreaming of a different way.

wink

How was your walk? Some nice impressions?
A few days ago I was standing near Hackescher Markt, waiting for my tram. There was a really big cloud in the sky, pale grey, lit up by the lights of the city. When I looked up there, a swarm of birds got up into the sky. The birds looked just like black shadows on the grey cloud. It was a magic moment.

Million Dollar Baby is on my "must see" list. And that pic rocks!

when i was in grade 12 i thought i had it all figured out. i had an early scholarship to a university not too far away to study english and i was going to try and get into writing. i had always been a writer, i've always loved telling stories.

but one day, in my photo 12 class, a former student came in and showed us his work. he had graduated five years earlier, and had landed a job with the new york times, working for a period in uganda. his work moved me to tears, and that's when it hit me. telling stories with photographs is so much more powerful than telling stories with words, at least for me. his photographs communicated to me on such a basic level, a level that transcends language or cultural barriers. it was then that i started to look into photojournalism. i read books like the bang bang club, shutterbabe, cried over the photos of kevin carter and dan eldon, and took off to the other side of the country to try my hand at this type of storytelling.

i'm actually going to meet up with ryan, that former student, when i'm in palestine later this month. he's in haifa doing a video project.
