I SURVIVED HURRICANE KATRINA!
So Thursday I unfortunately had to work, it turned out to be my last day at BELLA PIZZA. We thought it was going to be a slow day. IT WASN'T. It was a pretty decent day thanks in part to the other restaurants in the immediate area being closed due to Tropical Storm conditions... we closed early. Luckily the man didn't have to work and he even came in for lunch, we gave ANDERSON a lovely ride home and did some bank stuff and some errands... We got home and started to clean, the lights flickered, the wind went crazy and for a second there I thought the car was going to be blown away... ahhh!! We went outside and put all the patio stuff into one of the abandoned houses... and THEN THE POWER WENT OUT for GOOD!!! We decided to ruin the paint job on the windows; the stupid people that painted our apartment complex, painted our windows SHUT... so we did that and at least we wouldn't suffocate. We ended up spending the night here, luckily we have a gas range and oven so at least we had a hot meal for dinner... we played scrabble and finally it came time to go to bed... and I COULDN'T for the life of me FALL ASLEEP.... it was so fucking hot...blah... so needless to say I got maybe 3 hours of sleep TOTAL... and that's a HUGE maybe... we even went to sit in the car with the ac and radio there for a bit, we were so desperate...
Friday I woke up to my cell phone ringing, the man was called into work by Steve, the place had lost power and to top that all off the roof leaked and the drop ceiling had given way and fell into all the offices. The warehouse roof leaked and basically it was a disaster, but they did have power, so we hung out there and a few people showed up to survey the damages... Steve, the man and I went to the only open dominoes to pick up some grub, we came back hung out a bit but did not stay long b/c they had no internet and there really wasn't much to do, so we left MACE, came back to our place and then ended up at susis and Jorges...
Susi was flying in from North Carolina; she was there since Thursday on business.... the man cooked dinner for everyone... I ended up crashing on the air mattress bed for 3 hours thanks to my sinuses being all screwy cause of the weather, and I was just so tired from not sleeping the night before.... Jorge still has a boot on his foot from when he broke it almost a month ago and he has to use crutches, but he was extra special nice to me and my hurting sinuses....so we had burgers ala OTO and then susi finally came home, we hung out and then went to sleep....
The inflatable mattress was TOO hard and my back hurt in the morning... the children woke us up Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. and we left around 8:30a.m. To go home and check on the house because we had left 3 windows open so the animals wouldn't suffocate.... we got back and the power was on!!! YIPPEEE!! we were greeted by our front door neighbor saying that he tried to call us but couldn't figure out his phone, he said that the power came on around 3 or 4 in the morning and so he sat outside and watched our place for us because all the lights turned on and the windows were open, he even said that he had a conversation with our meowing cats... lol!
so we hung out at home for a lil bit then headed back over to susi's and Jorges, we stopped and got some oil for the car, the man insisted on changing his oil and then we went and got some stuff to grill for lunch ala OTO... when we got to susi's he changed his oil, they left to go get a washer and dryer and I hung out by my lonesome, when they got back we ate and I went to the pool store with susi and talked about my new job, the pool place had NO POWER they had a generator that they were sharing with another store and they had a fan and the cash register hooked up to it.... susi told me that the lady that owns that store makes her three sons work there every weekend... hell so would I...
After we got back from getting the chemicals the man had already assisted in getting the washer and dryer down off the truck and in place in the garage....then we left....
We came home a proceeded to clean up all the crap that was everywhere as a result of leaving windows opens during a hurricane... then we ate dinner and watched a movie...
Tomorrow I have to clean out the fridge and everything that spoiled because we had NO POWER for 36 hours...god I wish someone would compensate me for that loss...
