There is a place in Paris
where jam and pastry,
le petit djeuner,
is the currency of conversation
where dogs enjoy the day
in search of inventive mice
and find distraction in the
confectionous generosity of
les mains de petites filles

There is a village in England
where genius was born on eagle's wings
fueled by Ale and Cheese sandwiches
where cantankery was catalyst
to new words inventing
3 and a half foot men
and Lions who led children

There is a tree in Dublin
where ashes have met ashes
where father and best friend of boy
have caught the wind
become the ground
and found safe remaint
venerated stamped as emblem

in these places
I have become crushed
humbled and human
I have found my words as breakfast fodder
my hands wrapped around pencil and page

In these places I have felt not me, but them
the places each, as stony as a Latin quarter street
as nimble minded as a philologist
as tiny as a grain of father and Banshee ash

In these places I have been home
