Last night went to the Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards. An 18 year-old kid from the North Shore took home the grand prize, $65,000. $1,000 for each foot. That's right, kid dropped in on a 65 ft. wave. Unfathomable.

There's an Irish band that I discovered a year and a half ago called JJ72 that's got some pretty decent stuff.. if you're in a downloading frenzy and want to see whether you should chase down their CDs, I'd recommend October Swimmer, Oxygen, or Snow from the debut album, or Formulae, Brother Sleep, or Serpent Sky from the 2nd CD that came out on import last fall.
I'd also recommend a british import called Muse. They have an album called Origin Of Symmetry that's just all kinds of great. Modern and futuristic, there's something operatic about what they're doing. Check out Bliss or New Born.
And then go rent 24 hour party people. It's a movie. But it's about the music.
