I'm not much of a blogger but this is an issue that has been bugging me lately. I'm a huge advocate for transparency within the government, anti-censorship etc etc... don't get me wrong, I love my country, I vote for what I believe would be best for all, and my husband is in the airforce. I hold the highest regard for those that would sacrifice their lives so we can do all those things we do or don't hold for granted. That being said, there is a current media scandal about a certain Julian Assange, he leaked a army video of war crimes and now a soldier is being held in Kuwait as a suspect for reported "crimes" because of something an ex-con said. Now normally I would ignore this but the video... was something that I couldn't ignore.
It shows the downright cold blooded murder of innocent victims in 2007. All the while the media is exploiting this story , trying to make the solider (Bradley Manning) accused of being the source of the leak out to be a coward and a traitor. Neither of which apply to him in the obvious bang up job of a cover up the US Army made of the situation. All they want is to catch Julian Assange because they "believe" he has confidential cables. Last I checked America couldn't hunt down non- US citizens, not to mention by our laws and constitution everyone is innocent until proven guilty. Now while this "may" be a matter of national security. (This wouldn't be an issue if our leaders didn't lie and cover things up so much) It concerns the hell out of me that no one is caring about the victims and the horrendous acts that were committed that day. Where is the justice, integrity, and honor that we so pride ourselves upon as Americans.
We try to make ourselves out to be the saviors of the modern world, however a few individuals act more bestial than the "terrorism" we are trying to fight. The terrorism that is rampant in our own country. I ask this question. Where is Osama Bin Laden? Why the fuck aren't we finding him? We found Hussein in a fucking hole in the ground. It's pretty bad when not even the soldiers know what they are fighting for anymore. American leaders get your fucking act together. We won't be silenced or ignorantly allow ourselves to be misrepresented for much longer. Obama, you promised change, transparency in the government yet under you 3 people have been convicted of "whistleblowing". That is two more than any other president EVER. Why the lies and hypocrisy?
