Last night was the Global Dance Festival at Red Rocks. Wow. I had never been to Red Rocks before. That was a pretty intense event for my first Red Rocks concert. The fest started at 5 but I was super tired and needed some sleep before I went, so I didn't get there till ~7:30 or so. The hike up to the gate took at least 15 minutes. When I parked, I thought I knew what I was in for, but after hiking up past all the freaks and ravers and scantily clad women, I had no idea what to expect when I got in.
The first thing I noticed when I got in there - that place is BIG! I had no idea it was that huge. The bass was pounding between the cliffs on either side. I've never been much of a dancer so I just wandered around and checked out all the other dancers. I swear, I could walk through Victoria's Secret and not see that many different bras. That was possibly the best part.
Even though I showed up late, the place wasn't all that full. People kept filtering in though. By the time Tiesto came out, it was packed. I missed a lot of the smaller DJs but I got to see Richard Vission, BT, Jes, and someone else that I cant remember. The music was awesome, and after it got dark, just looking out over the crowd made me feel like I was fuct up from all the glowsticks and flashing LEDs.
Tiesto came out at about 10:30. I figured he'd play for about 30 minutes and it would be over by 11. That seemed like a reasonable time line to me. But I guess Tiesto didn't agree. He kept playing and playing. The music kept bumping until 1:30. I couldn't believe it. After showing up late and seeing 4 other DJ's, I got to watch the headliner play a 3 hour set.
I wish I had taken the opportunity to try to mack on some of the hot ladies there, but regardless, I still had one hell of a fucking awesome time.
Peace
Andy
