I figured with the new blog homework asking us to write about any "top 5" that's SG related I would choose a topic I could relate to more. And for me that would be photography, I'm not a staff photographer (but that's my goal!)
I'm a still a hopeful myself, but I can at least give my view on why shooting sets for SG is a great idea!
This site allowed me to explore further out of what I was so comfortable doing when it came to my work, which in my opinion made me a better artist.
So without further ado: Top 5 reasons to become a suicide girls photographer
1- Meeting new people. One of the biggest challenges for me as a photographer was to get over my SUPER anti social nature. I've grown too accustomed in the past to rarely ever talk with models, they would just show up, get dressed by the designer, get their face caked on with elaborate makeup, spend an hour having a hair stylist do their hair or slap a wig on them. And by the time they were in front of me it would be a very brief encounter mostly spent in directing them and we'd part ways with only a single good bye once we're all done.
Shooting for SG changed ALL of that! I befriended every model I've met both through the site and outside of it. I've gotten the chance to meet and work with models from other countries!!! I spent more time laughing and having a good time at every shoot that it's almost addictive...that weird unexplainable feeling of just wanting to meet more and more people all for the sake of good vibes and even greater photo magic.
2- Shooting Locations. Since shooting for the site I've been traveling further distances and in some of the most beautiful locations. I've always been one for wanting to venture out and explore the world but never have, especially when it came to doing shoots. I was always used to my little studio set up, colored backdrop with studio lights.....and that was about it. This site gave me a reason to get out more and who wouldn't want an excuse to travel?
3- Growing Creatively. As photographers we have to constantly switch up how we shoot and try new things to keep our portfolio versatile. Shooting for SG allows you to challenge yourself doing just that. With all the naked photos of women out there and even on the site you learn to get creative in how YOU photograph someone. New angles, different poses, how you go about directing someone...etc I would always tell the girls I shoot with that "it's not always about doing a million different poses to keep your sets unique and fun. It's how the photographer photographs you to show the audience YOU but in a different light."
It's a team effort, and if you ever want to challenge your self artistically this is the place for you.
4- Being a part of a huge Community. The site isn't all just tits and ass lol, it's a huge community filled with uplifting people. They're the friends you didn't know you even had when times are tough and the friends you're glad were there when you needed a good laugh. When my mother passed I made a blog here about it, In all honesty I wasn't expecting anyone to even see it for the fact that I'm not a model with 1,000+ followers. But I made that blog because I had something to say and this is the only site I've ever blogged on. So many people reached out to me in a time I needed most. This community doesn't just indulge in all the sexual stuff, they're real people.
Even when you want brutal honesty on your portfolio they'll give it to you, this place helps individuals grow and feel comfortable when the outside world does not. Of all the places out there that claim to make you feel like "family", this has been the only one I've known to actually do just that successfully. So I say for any growing artist especially.....it's wise to invest your time in a community that will not just benefit from you being a part of it but one where you can benefit from it as well yourself.
5- Money.IF your sets get picked for "Set of the day", you get paid by the site. So all the hard word and love you put into a submitted set gets to be placed all around SG's social medias and flaunted. You get that extra self validation knowing that something you were heavily behind is being noticed for all it's glory!
Plus the money is nice to ;)
