Off to Atlanta tomorrow for a friend's wedding and the long Labor Day weekend.
I'll also be off to Dragon Con as well. We usually have a pretty good time there drinking heavily and making fun of weird people. Preferably in that order.

Katrina has been weighing very heavily in my mind the last couple of days. The devastation there is unfathomable, and if I can coin a phrase, it's way worse than the pictures can depict. I also have a number of friends in the area who I haven't heard anything from. I'm praying that they left when the going was good.
The lootings and shootings that are taking place there are equally disturbing to me. It reinforces the fact that we really aren't that removed from wild animals, particular when we are put in a desperate position.
Lots of questions on my mind related to this:
What do the students at Tulane, UNO, Loyola, and other New Orleans Universities doing?
What about the zoo animals?
The scale of this disaster, and the time frame, if ever, that it is going to take to return things to some semblance of normalcy is frighting. Three months to restore power. Weeks before running water. No sanitation. Horrifying.
The long-term implications of this are gong to put 911 to shame.
