At last the midterm tests are graded, and my brain and red pen are no worse for the wear. The kids did a little better this time overall, although there still were a considerable amount of sub-par grades.
While that is to be expected, what surprises me still is the amount of student apathy I see at this university. Students will take their D's and/or F's and be, at least in my mind, perfectly content with them.
I feel like, as far as most professors are concerned, I'm pretty accessible and approachable. I always tell the students if there are things that they do not understand, or if they have questions, to come up to me after class or during my office hours and we can work together to clarify things. But visits are few and far between. There's not much I can do at that point--if they are unwilling or uninterested in getting help. that's their business.
One good thing is now that this phase of tests is over, I got a couple of weeks to get some research done. And maybe I'll have time to read a good book too.
Any recommendations?

It would have probably been a good idea for me to wait before going to college. I just thought it was something I should do, but I really had no what I wanted to do.
I don't know if your into punk music but Lipstick Traces is pretty good.
