Software wise I used Reason and Audacity. Effects units I have currently are the Sony MP3 and GP3, although I've had a bunch more that I no longer own. And I have this fantastic mini disc recorder that allows all sorts of editting.

about affording remodeling along with classes, I was lucky enough to have a rich grandmother die (she was a horrible person, sad but true). She left me money to work on my masters. the remodeling is a wonderful blend of parents and banks. Oh, and oodles of time to contemplate the interest.
