Hmmmmm...I knew this day would come one day...I have been staving it off with good thoughts and legal mind altering substances...
A few weeks ago, my company made all managers take a 5-10% paycut...This eventually trickled down to me and my peers. After much wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, it was communicated to us that we could work less hours to offset the lesser pay scale. I had a heart to heart with my direct supervisor in an attempt to have him understand that less hours does not keep me in my current tax bracket. He was sympathetic since he too is in the same boat...BUT he makes 20% MORE THAN I...so he still has that gulf to comfort him...
After the dust cleared the overall scheme of things has me attempting to increase production by 1 1/2% over last year, doing so working less hours and making less money...No store has EVER increased production that drastically consistently...and I am at one of the most productiive locations. I am also operating at full capacity as of about 8 months ago...I can't physically make more beer unless the size of the brewery is increased, and that's not going to happen.....So how can I increase production by a normally impossible amount with no more capacity????...Things that make you go "Hmmmmmmmmmm".
This week, our Grand Poo-Baa (CEO to you non-Flintstones types) came to our store for various reasons and I did get a chance to sit down with him to explain my situation...just in case he might not understand. Technically, he does not have to even speak to me since he already sat down with my direct supervisor. But he did...I showed him the brewery, manpower analysis, gross and net capacity, plant rehabilitation scheme, past peformance, future predications, etc.... I even divulged my personal dreams and plans and explained my desire to stay where I am...and then asked if he was going to be able to support me in this siuation and position. He was polite and asked if my boss had access to all this impressive knowledge...I explained that he was indeed aware of this information...on a weekly basis usually.
He shook my hand and asked me turn the manpower analysis into a job description...so I did...I guess he plans to use it to beat me roundly about the noggin...
So, here I am, in the same situation I was in last week at this same time...except for one minor detail..
I didn't really expect my talk with him to change things...but I would have appreciated a smile and a "Keep up the good work"...but no...
Oh well...now I need to update that resume as well....
