"Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice and he said, 'We are all just prisoners here of our own device'.
And in the master's chambers, they gathered for the feast.
They stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast."
With apologies to the Eagles...
I woke this morning..well it was morning for me, to the sounds of small children laughing in my house. This is not impossible, but they are never offspring that carry my chromosomes. The 5 year old twins and their parents dropped by for brunch on the way to some-other-place. They at least waited until I acheived a semi-natural awakening.
The girl is a sucker for my slow cooked creamy scrambled eggs and the boy is into buttermilk pancakes...not the thin crepe things that often pass for pancakes...I'm talking thick, light and tasty farm style pancakes that Marion Cunningham would weep over...
At least they had made coffee prior to my arrival...
Now, I'm told I can't say this in open court BUT the girl is my favorite...first of all, she is older by about 1 minute..they were born caesarian and she just happened to be near the door...I just think it shows meticulous planning on her part...Now, they are both smarter than I was when I was their age...in fact they might be smarter than I am now...hmmm..nawwww. The girl is quick...you can something totally off the wall to her and she comes back with a biting or ironic comeback, as though everything is totally serious...and she loves my cooking. The boy likes my pancakes but is not fond of the rest of my childrens repertoire...so when we have them for dinner, he gets hotdogs or pancakes...
The girl laughs easily, the boy is moody until he tickles himself totally unrelated to my funny stories...they ARE funny damn it!!! The girl is inquisitive beyond her years and always asks questions that never begin with "Why?" The boy rarely asks questions but is always ready with an explantation. The girl overthinks everything and then tries to teach the boy while he has a "Who the fuck are you trying to kid", look on his face but she never laughs when he falls down after her explanation.
They are both cute as buttons but she never compliments my cooking until she is finished because her mouth is always full...he invariably comments on each mouthful.."These are the best pancakes I have ever had", even though he said that about the ones previous to his current plate and always makes it sound as though he has had thousands of years of exposure to pancakes...Maybe they really do keep getting better...
Well, they are off now to their next adventure..and I am writing this as a fond memory of Saturday morning as I sip my glass of cheap red wine...oh it's all right, I opened it last night...besides, the coffee is gone and I'm too lazy to make more...it is Saturday morning afterall....
The cat is awake and just conned three hairball treats out of me...afterall, it is Saturday morning for her too..
I have chicken bones browning in the oven for onion soup tommorow...so I am just taking it easy as the slightest wisps of fog move into my neighborhood...
P.S...has anyone else noticed that with Binx's new hair color, she looks like Mellie13's twin????...Or is it just me???
