I guess it's that time again. I get all enthused about writing this thing and then get distracted by coffee drinks...go figure, who would have suspected that a bit of caffeine would lead to a myriad of adventures. The only related incident I have would be with my all too brief experience with psylocybin...Ahhh, the heady days of imagining that all the universe is merely a forgotten porch light in another reality.. ready to wink out at any moment while we all imagine ourselves important and unique...
Oh yes, coffee...what an amazing elixer, so many styles, so many pleasures wrapped up in a single cup...BUT never iced...please don't get me started. It's bad enough that I have to wait in line behind all of the half-caf-soy-no foam-chai-low fat-non fat folks..but then there are the ones who want iced coffee in the middle of winter...Iced coffee is God's way of telling you that the heat in your office building is too damn high...turn it down a bit and drink hot coffee like the rest of us...please for the love of God....
My week was great actually...it seemed to go fast, except for that brief moment where I thought Wednesday was Thursday.. A guy I work with brought in some pink oyster mushrooms from a local fungus festival...Noooo, not those kind of mushrooms..although I do miss those kind terribly...We made some early morning penne pasta in a light cream sauce and added the cooked mushrooms..a little parmesan cheese on top and "voila"...I love the first rains of the winter...a great time for mushrooms..
I have my Maibock aging and it tastes great even now...It will age until mid-April...then the huge tapping party where people will hopefully tell me that my efforts were not in vain...Beer is not like coffee in many ways...duh...but one of the most problematic is that if something goes wrong, you don't have time to throw out one pot and make another...beer is a moment in time extended until perfection..it has a definite starting point..but it will tell you when it is at its peak..all you can do is be ready for it...or try and coax it to speed up or slow down...but sometimes, all you can do is get out of its way...
I think that's enough for now...got to go make a pot of coffee..the cat is asleep and she hates not having fresh coffee when she wakes...
