So, interesting news today.
I've been working at the same shite dollar store for over 4 years and anyone who's been following my blogs would know that I've been actively searching for new employment. In my first year there, I became a supervisor and all was good in the world.
However, the following 3 years and some has been a non-stop shit show with a menial 10 cent raise every year. I make less as a supervisor than in any other retail establishment in Ontario. I had stayed all this time on recommendation by my manager, who has also become one of my best friends. He assured me that once he leaves, he'd be recommending me to take his place as manager.
3 years became too long to wait, especially with the splitting of my ex and I a few months ago. Once all my expenses doubled, I knew I'd have to leave. Or would I?
Today, my manager announced that next week would be his last week. I was both saddened and excited. I'm by far the most experienced, most qualified and most deserving of this job, but knowing the company I work for, am certainly not guaranteed the position. I wrote one hell of a cover letter and prettied up my resume to reflect this job specifically and sent them in to my district manager, who I've also come to know rather well over the years.
I have high hopes of getting this job, and if I don't, I'll be beyond pissed off. I didn't put in 4 years of my twenties for only 50 cents over minimum wage to be cast aside at my first opportunity to move up. Especially being, without a doubt, the best candidate for the position.
Fingers crossed.
