For my mom's birthday, she and I and some of her friends (who are mostly my friends' parents) went out to Marin for a picknic and little hike. When we take food places, we don't do sandwiches and chips. We got out there and all pulled out our bags of communal food which inlcuded couscous, stuffed olives, smoked thai salmon, brie, gouda, chevre, olive bread, apricot bread, chicken curry, fresh veggies from the garden, edamame salad, and the list goes on. We like our food. So that was fun.
Also, my mom and I saw Little Miss Sunshine last night and let me tell you it was good. It was really on par with Fargo. Less gorey. But equally macabre.
I'm trying to teach my mom to have good taste in music. Currently, she only listens to smooth jazz and I want to kill myself. I'm making a playlist now in hopes that I can ease her into Music. If anyone has any suggestions, please, let me know. I'm starting off with some Carla Bruni, some of the mellower stuff from Belle and Sebastian, maybe I'll be able to work her into the Books, but that's probably pushing it. Maybe Frou Frou? I'm starting as far back as Bob Dylan. Anyone who can't yet appreciate Bob is practically lost. So we have to start there, right? I remember sitting in the car at the age of three and having my dad go, "WHAT!? You don't know who the Beatles are?? Oh we have to fix that." But my mom... Dear oh dear.
The job front looks remarkably good for having been in town for only a few days. I definitley don't have enough lined up to make rent, but I'll be cooking for a family for a few nights a week and doing scrapbooks for her, which is something I've been wanting to get into making a business out of (I know, ridiculously dorky, but hell, if someone will pay me to play with paper, I'll take it!), and I also might have a job as a line cook for one of the cooler cafs in town, which rocks.
Other than that, there's not much. I'm biding my time until we move into this new house and then my new houesmates leave for almost a month and I'm alone in Davis... Weird.
My more driven friend has insisted that I make a list of goals. I should. I'm working on it.
I miss my boy.

I love music but hardly ever listen to it since I got my good stereo system stoleh years ago... it is a major goal of mine to setup a nice stereo in the new house. Multi Zone (okay computer room, bedroom, living/dining/kitchen, all feeding off of the music loaded into Itunes on my PC...
It is doable and not terribly expensive but outside my reach right now. Probably end up with a Sonos system (www.sonos.com).
How is everything else in your new home?
