I guess I missed my usual travel day blog post this week. It was an alright travel day from Hidalgo, TX to Odessa, TX. I was flying on Southwest airlines, which is something I haven't done a lot. I don't know why not having a reserved seat on a plane makes me feel so awkward. Maybe it's something deep seated from when I was a kid and was always picked last and now I have a fear that nobody wants the seat next to me. I don't know why they wouldn't because I don't think I have any strange features or freakiness outside of shaving my head and I don't know why I hold social acceptance so highly.
Anyway, it was a pretty quick travel day despite having to take off and touch down three times in one day to travel just over 600 miles. It's on some of those days that I wish I wasn't traveling on company transportation, but I guess it comes down to a fear that if I don't travel on company transportation something will happen and if I'm not on company transportation and I arrive late I will feel guilty that I wasn't there to fix any problems that come up that I should have been around for if I had taken the provided transportation. I guess it's part of the curse of having a close connection to your work and feeling very responsible for things that are sometimes out of my control.
I had a great first day in Odessa, TX because I got to walk across the street for a breakfast at Denny's and I got some work done to arrange for service for our large electrical generator. I was a little held up by the fact that it was last minute and one of the other guys wasn't on the lot to get his gear off the truck before we brought it to the service depot. I returned to the lot and helped someone wash their housing trailer in the wind and sun. It is a company trailer, but she likes to keep things looking neat and tidy, and someone's trailer does reflect part of how that person goes through life. I'm not really sure what that must say about me because I live in a company provided trailer with up to three other people in the other rooms and we never clean the outside of the trailers.....anyway, I digress. I followed that up with coming inside and working with my brother by phone and computer to try and setup an off site back-up for all of my information.
The day was capped off by going off site to get some dinner at a little hole in the wall burger joint and coming home and enjoying some time sitting outside under the stars. I had a great time hanging out with the maestro for our show and followed that up with some time having a couple more beers with the owner of the other trailer and as we were enjoying the first round some others wandered over and we sat around and talked and had a pretty good time.
There was talk of a BBQ later in the week and some talk about going out several times to a place called Graham Central Station here that has 5 clubs under one roof, although it's hard to say if I'll hear from anyone about any of that again because I seem to be on the end of the grapevine around here and sometimes I just find it hard to keep asking people what's going on to try and figure it out. I only imagine that things would be different if I wasn't living and working with the same 100 people for two years because I'd be out and about finding the people who really want me to be around when they go out at night. I really miss the friends that I've somehow left behind as I continue touring. I miss my friends that I made in Coney Island and we're coming up quickly on the time that the show traveled there in the past, so it's all coming right back into my mind as I'm reminded that we aren't returning this year. I also miss the friends that I had while I was on the bigger circus when the number of people on the show was up over 300 people.
Ugh, I'm just funked because some people are different when they start new relationships and I just realized that what is happening to me has probably happened to some of my friends when I started dating people. I really hope I wasn't like two different people when she was around and when she wasn't. Anyway, I think this is long enough and I know it's my blog and that's why I say a lot of what I said, but if anything strikes a positive chord or irks you or upsets you, I welcome you to comment below or send me a message or add me as a friend.
