Wow...I think I just saw the most powerful piece of television for a long time. It was at 2 last night on TLC, the show is called "The Boy whose Skin Fell Off" and it really is powerful. It is about a man (34 y/o) named Jonny with a rare skin disease called dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa or EB. This show covers his last 10 months of life after he was told that he had less than a year to live. Essentially, there is nothing there to hold his skin on or together, so the slightest touch can blister and rupture it. 90% of his body was covered with sores. The disease entail excruciating pain and discomfort at all times. The problem was so bad that he eventually developed skin cancer, and that is actually what killed him. His hands had been scarred so bad, that the skin grew over his fingers so he only had useless stumps where hands were. Even a hug from his mother caused the most intense pain.
But through all of this...
He kept a never ceasing upbeat outlook on life. The guy picked out his own casket! He even asked for a tiger (in reference to a Queen song) and a Heinz beans logo on it (the beans because he wanted people to smile at his funeral). I really don't want to go any further as to ruin it for others, just, if you have the chance, WATCH IT!
Not kidding...this show brought tears to my eyes.Find the schedule here!
