I'm feeling geeky, but helpful tonight. Here's some recent cool finds (and nothing too complicated to run).
Ad-Aware is a spyware removal tool, probably the most widely-used and best out there. A majority of the issues I see at work where the main symtoms are "my computer is slow," "IE is giving me weird errors," or "I keep getting popup ads" can be eliminated with this tool. Download, install, click "check for updates now," click Connect, Ok, Finish, Start, let it run til it beeps, select all the files, click the button to get rid of them. Voila! (a reboot helps too...) Even as security-minded and careful as I am, I tend to get a bit of spyware on my computer on a regular basis as well.
No cell phone, or no long distance cell phone plan, but you like to talk to your SG friends by voice? Try what is the best of both IM and phone worlds: Skype. We use this at work since most of the people on my team work in Canada. Pretty slick, and it has awesome quality for such a quick program.
Lots of passwords on sticky notes around your computer or in a nearby drawer...use the same couple passwords for everything? Just plain forget what you all have accounts in? Password Safe is a great little program. Install, start, make your database (basically just click a button and choose a password), and boom, start adding in passwords. Now, instead of remembering 25 passwords or making them all the same, just remember your one password and store them all in Password Safe. And, I wouldn't recommend this program if it didn't encrypt the database, making it safe from prying eyes. (By the way, it works on Pocket PCs too!)
Lastly, my favorite things would not be complete without mentioning some music sites. If you don't mind paying for decent quality trance/techno/more, check out Digitally Imported. If you want free ambient and the like, SomaFM is the bomb. This stuff is just great to have playing at all times...

Yah, sure one can get too wrapped up in things. But this is a one month vow. I can afford to be wrapped up in something that only lasts a month. That, and once I learn these things, it won't take so much effort anymore. It's a one time investment to learn what has rennet and what doesn't.
