Sort of a stream of consciousness warning...
So tonight I was in chat and being a bit of a boob, and mentioned that when I have sex, I say Arnold Schwarzenegger quotes randomly, "who is your daddy and what does he do?" So I started looking for Conan quotes since he had some funny off-context lines in those movies...but I googled across a Conan: The Barbarian review. Now, I have Conan: The Destroyer, having been one of my favorite movies as a kid, but I never remember terribly liking Barbarian...but this review painted Barbarian well so I thought, "I should buy it even though I don't know if I liked it originally...since it is touted as one of the best swords n sorcerer movies..." So I decided I would head to Best Buy tonight and grab it and Cabin Fever which I loved in the theater and just had not gotten yet.
So off I trotted to Best Buy to pick those two up and also check for two other movies which I can never find anywhere...The French Connection (only seen parts of it, but even just those parts make me love this movie as a classic) and Love & Sex, a brilliantly cute and funny movie about a new couple and their development together starring Famke Janssen and Jon Favreau...it is one of my favorite "love" movies. And no, it's not about how they meet, it's about how their relationship starts and grows...
Anyway, I pick up Cabin Fever and also pick up a 2-movie DVD disc of both Conan movies (so yes, now I have two Destroyer's but this one was cheaper than Barbarian alone!) and browse for my others.
Sadly, I always buy more...
I came across Sneakers and being the computer/security/hacking geek that I am, I had to finally break down and buy this computer security movie since a few people in the industry have recommended it in the past as a good geek movie. I also was in the mood for a little dramatic suspense and happened across another movie I had never seen that had an interesting cover, Under Suspicion. The cover had Morgan Freeman (love his presence and he has a slew of good dramatic suspense films) and Gene Hackman (love his presence as well) along with Monica Bellucci (the girl in Matrix Reloaded that is literally popping out of her dress...yeah, we all know the girl)...all of which I could not go wrong on. As a side note, I watched it just now, and I must say I loved it...even though the ending is incredibly unexplained so I have to now watch the commentary (thank god there is some). The movie is basically Hackman and Freeman for 90% of it, volleying back and forth and just plain being two of the best suspense actors in the biz, with Monica giving the best looks she's ever given, with a thick accent to boot. Not only that, but I was thrilled to see that one of my favorite techno arists, BT, did the score for this movie (and it hauntingly rocks). The presentation of this story is also interesting...it is obviously from a book due to the character driven details, but it is told partially in flashbacks, where the actors take part in the flashback even if it is not their own flashback...somewhat like Basic with MUCH better acting (the only thing good in that movie was seeing Travolta's surprisingly ripped body) or Boondock Saints when DaFoe appears in scenes he's not really participating in.
So I tucked that movie in my hand...browsed some more and came across the "special value" section while secretly hoping for a "classics" section to find The French Connection. Instead, I pick up a $6 deal on Tigerland. Tigerland was Colin Farrell's first real movie role (and while I don't know his personal life, I really do love him in his movies, he's a very good young actor) and directed by Joel Schumacher. Schumacher is one of my more recent finds and I've loved so much of his work (8mm, Phone Booth, Gossip, Flatliners, The Lost Boys...) that I couldn't pass up this highly acclaimed gem for so cheap. So I'm still browsing and I find another of my favorite acting presences, Donald Sutherland in The Puppet Masters. Now, I know I've seen this movie in college, although I remember nothing of it (probably while half drunk with buddies), and I vaguely recall being impressed by it. I also know that I have a fond place for movies that do not end on happy notes (I vaguely remember this not ending well) and I really like sci-fi/suspense movies and Donald Sutherland (he takes over ANY scene he is in anymore...dominating...however he's brilliant in Invasion of the Body Snatchers) so I also could not pass this one up for a mere $10 bucks. So I end up walking out with 6 new movies (7 with the double disc) for only $72.
So yeah, that's my stream of thought night...

As for your Q, yes we are kind of trying.... and might still be, I am just in need of better communication. My usual complaint.
I like sneakers, thought it was groovy....
I hope that you are well. Take Care
