Yesterday's long post likely didn't get many readers, and hence even fewer comments...doh.
Gothika review:
While the movie title and preview want to convey something like a genre-atmospheric "The Cell" feeling, it really doesn't go balls-out. The movie is really just your typical murder suspense movie. Throw in a few twists like you normally have (nothing unpredictable at all), add in the ghosts element and you've got Gothika. In other words, mix 3 parts Kiss the Girls, 1 part The Cell, 2 parts 13 Ghosts...
The movie was an enjoyable ride, had a few scary moments, but all in all it tries to be a murder suspense and ghost movie all in one, and ends up feeling like a half-assed attempt at both. However, the film scored good actors in almost every part, however, they had very little to work with, and even Halle Berry was pretty one-dimensional and badly written.
Of note, I have no clue what the name of the movie means to the story at all.
Overall rating: 2.7 simply because it wasn't terrible, right up there with enjoyable but forgettable movies like Denzel Washington's flick Out of Time...and many others this year. I'd suggest waiting for this one on video/dvd.
Song of the moment for me: F.S.O.L - Papua New Guinea (Marco V mix)
(EDIT: A reinstall of IE seems to have cleared up my problems.)
