CHAPTER 2: San Juan, Puerto Rico.
So, after sailing on the Explorer of the seas for days,
we thought that our first stop was Labadee, Haiti, but the weather was so bad that we could not even get off the ship onto the little shuttle boats that take you to shore!
Ball-sack.
But instead we just sailed an extra day, and went straight to San Juan.
(which is the capitol of Puerto Rico)
It was wickedly hot there, and we spent the day tripping around in Old San Juan.
I immediately harassed the local dirty-birds
There were a lot of impressive old sculptures, and statues...
and this rad fountain, featuring nice boobies...
San Juan was originally inhabited with tribes of peaceful natives that lived off the land. These people were all slaughtered in cold blood by Spanish colonists when they came in the early 1500's-1520's to claim the land for themselves....
These trees had massive amounts of exposed root hanging from the limbs, and animals in the foliage were squealing, and rustling about, but I couldn't see what they were!...it was quite strange..
We aimlessly wandered taking in the scenery..
Creepy priest sculpture!!
D'oh!
We found this old grave yard right on the shore, it was beautiful!
Every single grave had it's very own mourning marble statue....
It was quite awe-inspiring, I have to share this photo series with you!
I think I might develop some large and hang them throughout my house!
O.k, so, leaving the graveyard...
We stumbled across San JuanKITTEH!!
This dude was hanging out on these stairs where all of the tourists funnel through, and just soaked up the attention, he was there when we started our tour, and he was still there several hours later when we went to leave!!
So I officially pet a Puerto Rican kitteh, and dog! Animal mission: Complete..
All of the streets in old San Juan were this really cool blue marble brick, it was intense..
We strolled around looking at cute little shops, some with old men whittling things, and painters on corners..
there were TONS of jewelery stores here...
I tried on a $5000.00 jaguar ring!! wtf, who would pay that?!?
The POLICIA!!!
Our boat towered over the local buildings!!
There was this really cool old fortress there.
Because of its prominence in the Caribbean, a network of fortifications was built to protect the transports of gold and silver from the New World to Europe. Because of the rich transports, San Juan became a target of the foreign powers
After all, the Spanish had to fend off the English, Dutch, and finally, bringers of their demise,
the Americans.
We toured around the fortress, and, "shanty town", the ghetto.
bahaha...
We even found the only tattoo shop there, and they guy working it had a rad Dave Fox sleeve, I've seen it before in magazines...
As the sun began to set,
We headed back to the ship to get changed for our last San Juan Huzzah, drinking at the local hot-spot
back to the ship to set sail for our next destination...
Stay tuned for the next installment, St.Thomas & Turks and Caicos!!!
Have a Happy Holiday everyone!!!
Try to not be a consumer whore!
Buy local made prezzies!!!
make your own cards and tags!
wrap with newspaper and stuff!!
I'm off to Niagara Falls for a week!
Peace out home slices.

I know this is late but I had to say you really should get those pictures developed for your home. They are AMAZING!!!! I'm so jealous of your trip there. I've never seen pictures of PR like that. I'm Puerto Rican born in Florida though and have never been. I've only seen pictures and videos. I love going to cemeteries though b/c I think they're absolutely beautiful. My father worked at one in Miami when I was younger and we'd visit him all the time. I find it fascinating and enjoy the fact that all these different nationalities, families, age groups, what-have-you are all in one place resting. By the way you are so pretty and just love the person you seem to be by your profile and blogs. I rarely get on here b/c I'm usually busy with my son and have had a stroke of bad luck with my body this past year needing to have a c-section and just having my gall bladder removed. scars, scars, and more scars! I want to try and submit a set but been having a hard time finding a photographer. ....Hopefully soon it will happen. Actually, I really wanted to do some when I was pregnant but was living in Colorado at the time and didn't know anything out there. Maybe next pregnancy?! That would be beautiful to see on SG. Anyway, I wrote WAY too much and probably annoying. Keep up the good work!
