I was reading the Tempest again and thought I would share my favourite lines with you.
Caliban:
"Be not afeard; the isle is full of noises,
Sounds, and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears; and sometime voices
That, if I then had waked after long sleep,
Will make me sleep again; and then in dreaming,
The clouds methought would open, and show riches
Ready to drop upon me, that when I waked
I cried to dream again."
Shakespeare, The Tempest, 3.2
The last line always makes me sad, for a lot of people I guess sleep is an escape for a reality thats hard to face.
About 5 years ago I stumbled upon a charity called Children of Fire and whenever I get a chance I go and visit and bring them cake and if I can get enough people together, take them to the movies or the zoo. I try and remove my emotions from the equation when visiting because they are just little children and I would hate them to think I am ever affected by how they look, I can't lie, the first time I visited I was shocked, not because I thought that they were ugly but because I lived in a society where such horrific things could happen and on top of those things everyday people would alienate these kids because of something as shallow as their appearances(A lot of the older kids at the school felt they could no longer attend regular schools because of this).
This charity serves as a constant reminder of how lucky I am to have had the life and family that I do and mostly that I am lucky to have had the opportunity to have met such loving, beautiful little children, their amazing coping abilities and positive attitudes will stay with me forever. If anyone would like to read more about the place they can here, I hope it can inspire some of the same gratitude and respect like it has for me Please don't look if you are sensitive or are going to be put off, it is a very harsh and raw website and it is not my intention to upset anyone.
