It's not often in my existence that I get a chance to do something worthwhile. It's nice to be surrounded by people who encourage you to do that type of thing.
I am being a bit vague so to contextualise: Arroia asked Cuddlefish and I if we would like to volunteer at Crow animal rehabilitation centre. I was keen so we spent a day working our arses right off but I loved it. The work was smelly, gross, and exhausting but one cuddle from a baby dassie makes it all worth it.
I got to see and touch birds I had never seen in real life:
a white eared barbet:
,
tinker barbet:
,
baby burchell's coucals really shy and elusive birds)
Who can say they have scratched a baby warthog behind the ears, been climbed by a mongoose, scratched a starling behind its ears and had a purple crested lourie playing with their shoelaces?
I thinking want to go live at Crow. I will at least be going there once a month to help.
I hate sounding negative but I think sometimes It is nicer to help animals, they appreciate it more than people.
Above I had to image search pics of the birds cos they were in the sickbay and there wasn't enough light to take nice pics of them and I couldn't open the cages to take pics. But I have pictoral evidence of the rest
Letting hadeda's as out of there cage into their enclosure which we toiled over for fucking hours:
Arroia being wooed by a baby dassie:
A purple crested lourie making friends with me:
Wendy The warthog (cos alliteration is fun):
Mr rattles the porcupine:
A duiker which was smaller than a cat...full grown:
In other news: I am now am on instagram, @lumo _suicide follow me if you don't mind the fact I will post more pics of bugs than people... and I did make an amazon wishlist cos people have been bugging me about it

But really, I'm sure I'll still be processing that event for a while. I want to know what happens to the kid from here. I'd like to think he understands why we handed him to the cops. I hope he gets treated fairly. I hope he finds a way to live that involves making cool things rather than stealing cool things. But... I don't get to see the rest of the story from here.
