I have been not been on SG much as of late/ done the blog thing. It makes me grumpy when I don't get my SG fix! I have been working my ass right off, so there really has not been time.
A thousand apologies in any event, I have been well and proper punished already for my tardy blogging, I assure you! I have now been hit in the face, elbowed, and hit with a staff all in the span of 2 weeks at kung fu (previous blog's tappy tappy incident kharma surely ALSO has to be paid off by now ???). So I have been going to work looking like a battered woman and getting strange/concerned/knowing looks from random customers. Some days I am sorely tempted to do the whole fight club thing and tell customers its my boss who is beating me!![wink](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/wink.6a5555b139e7.gif)
Before I continue, anyone with Lepidopterophobia or Mottephobia should stop reading this blog!!!!!
What little time off I have had of late was spent at a butterfly farm near midlands. Its kinda like a big aviary/terarrium/greenhouse enclosure for indigenous butterflies as well as butterflies imported from all over the world. I am exposing my level of nerdness now but I'm obsessed with butterflies and might even be termed an amateur Lepidopterist. I embrace my utter nerdiness!
The day before we went, summer arrived in KZN and it was scorchingly hot
it would mean that the trip wouldn't have to be postponed due to rain yet again (which had already happened a few times). I awoke on the day of said trip ...and guess what... overcast and gloomy weather! Fortunately I decided: "fuck it lets go anyway"
I managed to take pics of most of the butterflies even though they are much less active in cold weather. The only butterfly picture i didn't get was of the the Morpho butterfly cos the ADHD little fucker wouldn't sit still for a second! The Morpho butterfly would be the tranny of the butterfly kingdom with its huge, in your face, metallic blue wings! Its one of my favorite butterflies.
I also liked the little glasswing
Its not the prettiest butterfly but its unique and its one of the few butterflies able to withstand colder climates. Another one of my favorites is the common diadem, unfortunately I couldn't get a picture of a particularly good specimen only this one which looked like it was about to kick the bucket
They also had finches

and quails in the enclosure which are remarkably tame and super cute.
A separate cordoned off area of the greenhouse housed little cotton top tamarins- The male tried to pee at me through its cage-fortunately my kung fu reflexes saved me!![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
I was also fortunate enough to see a pinned specimen of a hermaphrodite butterfly (which has a technical term beginning with a G which I can't recall or pronounce)Which is apparently extremely rare![](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/ph-508.604ed20cffa9.gif)
Lastly they had fugly little bugs called leaf insects ,which i didn't take a good picture of. They look like an unholy union of a praying mantis and a parktown prawn. Icky but kinda cool!
Now because you were all so patient with Lumo's national geographic special
