So a lot of people are always asking me what I think of American Idol. Valid question, since it now has about 75 million viewers and my opinion means next to squat. I sit back and ponder the question for a while, like as if I'm savoring a fine wine, swish it around a bit at first and come up with a reply.
I never watched the first season, not at all. I started watching the second season just for the laughs at the beginning and pretty much haven't missed a show since. It was/is always funny watching someone sing horrible off key and think they were doing great.
However, there are times as well when I'll see someone that I actually want them to do well. There was a girl on last night that had her mom run off when she was 4, her dad has been in and out of jail her whole life, and this show is her one chance of changing her life. This was the Joseph Campbell heroes journey right there.
If she doesn't end up winning the whole event, that's fine. If this show makes it so she sing TV ads and makes $100,000 a year, this show will have done something positive for her.
I never care who wins. Nobody who has won(or came in second) has as of yet, gone on and done anything worthwhile, but behind the scenes I'll bet it made some peoples lives better.
Oh yeah, I hate the host. I can't even think of his name right now, but I hate the bastard. Ryan Seacrest, thats it.
