Tons of papers to grade already. Yeah, I have a three day work-week on campus and, yeah, I have summers off, but the part no one sees except Neo because he lives with me is the stacks and stacks of papers I read DAILY for HOURS. My job only looks easy. Ha.
Okay, got that out of my system. We continue to have some issues with our neighborhood. A neighbor and a couple of friends of his did some yard work for us yesterday. I have work and Neo has back problems, so it just came up when Neo was talking to this neighbor. Of course, we expect to pay them, but those details hadn't been worked out just yet. Last night at 11:30 pm, a man neither of us know is banging on our door telling us we owe him money for yardwork yesterday. He'd been drinking, and he said he was our neighbor's cousin, and yadda, yadda, yadda.
We've hired this neighbor's 10 yr. old kid and two friends of his all summer to help out with stuff around the house. They're good kids and Neo enjoys working with them to get stuff done. The neighbor--we just found out--was in prison for 2 months. We had a pretty good idea he was dealing, but, you know--leave me alone and I'll leave you alone and everybody just keep your guns holstered. The neighbor's appreciative of us helping out his kid this summer. But, man, I don't want strangers at my door late at night telling me I owe them money!
It's weird (the favorite word!). I didn't grow up in that great of a neighborhood in Kentucky. Neo grew up in Philly, lived and worked in some of the bad sections. I lived in Philly for 8 yrs before moving to Millville and buying the house with Neo. We're dealing with more scary stuff in what seems like a nice quiet working class/poor neighborhood than either one of us has ever dealt with anywhere else. Don't quite know what to do about it.
Okay--I'm all complaints today, so I'm just gonna stop. I'm not in that bad of a mood, so I don't know why I'm bitchin' and moanin' about everything. Gonna go play with the Geezers. They keep me happy.
