ive been thinking lately about where i want to end up when i finish school and actually start teaching. ideally, id like to move back to portland, but with the teacher situation being what it is there, im not sure if thats realistic.
if i could at least end up somewhere in oregon, i wouldnt have to go through any more schooling or certifications if i did finally get a job in portland. thing is, i know how easy it is to just stay in a job and a city that you're used to for a long time, so i have to be really careful where i decide to take a job.
that brings up another point: moving.
moving just about couldnt suck anymore than it does.
my worst move was when i (briefly) moved from portland down to the bay area. i couldnt afford a u-haul cuz after like 150 miles or something, they charge you 50 cents a mile, so pretty much you gotta be rich like mr. howell to afford it. so instead, my mom offered to help me drive my shit down there (650 miles) convoy style, with me in my little piece of shit escort that i was driving at the time, and her in a decent car. but both of them filled to the brim with stuff. i couldnt see out of any of the windows except for the windshield and the driver's side window and my air conditioning didnt work and it was august.
after we dropped all the stuff off down at my cousin's place (where i was staying), i had to drive up to portland and get the rest of my stuff. i really didnt have all that much stuff, its just that you cant fit very much in a car, especially furniture. anyway, on the way back down the wildfires burning in southern oregon were gettting pretty close to medford and ashland and as i pulled into medford to get something to eat, i looked at a temperature sign on a bank and it said 112 degrees!
that went well with the thick, black smoke that was wafting into my car, since my windows were rolled down due to my convenient lack of a.c. so i was sweating my junk off and choking on smoke in an old car that didnt always run so well even when it didnt have 500 extra pounds of crap in it. and not being able to see out any windows made changing lanes in the trafficky areas a fun adventure.
all in all, i drove about 2000 miles in 4 days and sweated off about 7 pounds.
yup..........if i had the choice between having to move or having a vietnamese pot-bellied pig dry hump my leg for an hour, id take the pig every day of the week and twice on sundays.

Yeah... history rocks my box. I think I might even take another 4 years of school, so I can be a proffesor in history.
