Boredom has slowly started to set in.....

I don't know what to do with myself these days. I don't go back to school now until spring. I have a little over a month left before I have my baby boy. I'm too close to the end to get a job, and even if someone would hire me, why would I want to stand on my feet all day with this watermelon strapped onto my belly? It's heavy, I tells ya, heavy! So I sit and wait and read and watch the tube and nest and fold tiny clothes and drink tea and......

My christmas shopping is all done and my boyfriend will be home for the first time in three months on the 20th for christmas break. Damn you Wyotech! I am really excited to see him, and sick of waiting for my life to start again. But I hope everyone has a nice day=)

My impression of the purpose of online journals with space for reader comments is that they are actively soliciting opinions. There seems to be some presumption that the comments have to be positive, which I do not understand. Is this because of our grandmothers' "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" aphorism? I do not believe my grandmother was acquainted with online journals.

But that is a general comment that anyone who exercises their right to free speech is open to comments both positive and negative and not a reference to this specific situation, in which I was not seeking to offend but merely to understand how someone with no job, someone who hasn't even finished school, could possibly support a baby. In my job, I see people every day who do not possess the financial wherewithal to support offspring who nonetheless proceed to have them, expecting the state, their parents, etc., to support them. It makes me extremely angry. Most SG girls are in their late teens/early twenties -- we are far too young to be having kids. Biologically, no, but, in this day and age, we mature mentally much later and achieve financial stability much later (if at all) than previous generations. I can't see being able to support a kid before 40. If you can do it sooner, and are willing to make the sacrifices, more power to you.

Hey, Lucille and everyone-

Mistress Rowena's boy toy here. I saw this whole discussion over her shoulder, and I thought I'd respond myself.

First off, I think it's great that L.'s boyfriend is able to support the three of them, and that she's going back to school. I wish the two of us could be parents. We already have "dog lust" - we pet every damn dog and carriage horse on the streets of Manhattan. But we can't do it right now - she's in school, and my publishing job is fun, but it pays shit, and I want to go back to school, too. Yes, we'd love to have kids one day - but damned if we can afford it right now.

The fact of the matter is, this is kind of a new situation. It wasn't so long ago that regular people (and not perpetual boho students like us) could actually afford to have kids while they were in their twenties - even have a single income! My folks had already had both me and my brother when they were my age, for instance. Meanwhile, in a civilized country (like Sweden) students like us can pop out a couple of brats and go to school, because there's daycare and subsidies, etc.

I'm also of the firm opinion that the fact that it's so hard to start a family these days is why so many people are perpetually single...

Just some thoughts,

T.T.
