After watching this beheading video over and over again, and cutting it up and analyzing each frame (yes I am that big of a dork) I have come to the conclusion that, IN MY OPINION, it is fake.
If you don't know what I'm talking about read the news sometime.
Going on.... Aside from the obvious blip of 11 hours going by from the time they knock the guy down to the ground to the time the actual cutting on his neck there are other more subtle things going on.
First, camera is on a tripod as is visible for the first portion, then during the beheading its hand held. Ok, so someone coulda picked it up.
Second, the scream attributed to the victim doesn't match a voice test. You can run things like that now with all these cool download things, and some easy to find voice recognition software. Anyway, the voice that was "screaming in pain" according to the news, was not the voice of the "Iraqi" that read the letter, nor according to my software that of the man who introduced himeself. Granted if my throat was getting cut I'm sure my voice might change too, which brings me to...
Three, the knife first appears to enter the victims throat from the front (which you never see up close). The quality is bad so its hard to tell if he succeeded, but the angle suggests that within the first second and half the scream couldn't continue. Yet it does. Without vocal chords how does one continue to scream?
Four, even if I do buy the camera being hand held after they went through so much trouble to have a clean tripod shot, I do not buy that they (the iraqis) if attmepting to instill fear would not show the knife ACTUALLY touch the victim. The whole scene was reminscient of Psycho, where the knife is shown near skin, but never touches it.
Five, the victim doesn't appear to be struggling. I'm sorry, but last ditch survival would generally make anyone at least TRY to squirm away. Even with the "accepting of death" thing. As a matter of fact the body looks like it wasn't so much as being held down by the one "Iraqi" as being held up, and shaken to appear alive.
Six, despite the obvious poor quality of the video, there is a surprising lack of blood. I'm not referring to movie amounts of gushing blood, but I was expecting a bit more then a drip. When the Iraqi is holding up the head, there are a few entrailish looking things, and a couple of drops. Thats it. Additionally, throughout the cutting, you don't see more then a soda cans worth of blood on the floor.
Seven, the war is slowly losing its popularity in the United States. As a result, people are more and more demanding we leave. How convienent is it that months before the election, and weeks before almost total apathy towards the war by the nation that there is something this shocking and outrageous? Do you think Joe Average American would want to let a country off the hook after seeing that video? I don't.
It is my opinion (and I am not generally a conspiracy theorist) that the video is faked. I believe that it was created by our government in hopes to bolster support for this war. They wish to strike the chord of fear into the American people so that the wool is pulled over your eyes. President Bush, does not want to lose this coming election and if he can show quick and descisive action against this crime then his popularity with voters will rise.
I suggested this theory to a co-worker, and his only retort was "What about the family"
Is it not possible the family doesn't know? That the American Governement wouldn't let them in on it? That perhaps even the "victim" himself is simply being held prisoner now, if he was not himself part of it?
I'm in no way sure of anything I've posted here, as I have no hard core facts beyond what I saw in the video. I just find this all a little too timely.
For reference, I downloaded the video here.
