As 2023 closes, I have three books from the same series in development.
If you're wondering why... that's a good question. In reality, the first two could have been published by now and I could be sharing the links and telling you about how the third instalment is going...
But I see a lot of authors rushing to self publication. I think they see other writers having their cover reveals and launch dates and they want it to be their turn. In a bigger community, it's happening to someone else so frequently that we start to feel like we're the only ones not getting a book out there.
... but this is not the case. In truth, many of those cover reveals and launches have been finished books for months or years and by. a long, long shot, you are not alone in not getting your book out next week.
It's not just literature too, I've seen this in other hobby areas where the glut of new works every day and every week can make you feel like you're not going fast enough.
Let's all take a moment, right here, and breathe.
Because publishing a book can, and usually is a slow process. If you want to try and get traditionally published, then it's even slower and I have never done anything where so much patience has been required. SO in respect of my first book that I finished the first draft of in November 2020... yeah, it's taking a while but the uphill climb on that one has also been the biggest and while I've been doing it, I need to crack on with the rest.
I don't want this to be a series I keep saying I will write once there's interest. I want to show that it has the legs and I have the grit necessary to get it down and with a plan that will take me up to... yes... 2030... I need to get on with it. CHOP CHOP! as we say where I'm from.
So while Boxrunner gets a professional edit, Proteus Rising waits. It will need much less work doing to it because I've learned so much and made so many positive decisions while redrafting my first book.
So yeah - three on the go at once.
But that's what makes it such a memorable time for me. I have such ford memories of writing certain parts of Proteus Rising and I can wait to see what Red Tempest delivers to me in 2024.
Let's get some words down.
Luc.
