“Irrinuuga, this is Tourbillion Crimson Horse. All vessels approaching the Exchange are now subject to inspection. Stand to and prepare to receive a shuttle.”
The water tanker Aquon Irrinuuga holds at 4km from the Tourbillion Orbital Exchange over Titan. I think this is my first rendered scene from Book 2: Proteus Rising.
Irri is a benign ship with a whale-like disposition. She is placid and gentle, well suited to the task of hauling water around which is just about the heaviest thing transported around in space when you account for the volume being moved. Her centre section is a huge hold where she uses cranes attached to the inside of the hull to move tanks around the zero-G environment inside.
Irri is run by the Raxen family. Dad, Jareth uses a wheelchair. Not ideal for a life in space but he has bionic leg frames that he can use to walk. They are old, however, and the spinal connection is uncomfortable to use. With his Wife, Thealah and six kids to feed and train to run the ship, he's not likely to be able to afford new ones any time soon so he has to find a way to do without them wherever he can.
