My grandfather on my dad's side died on August 15th, 1962 while my dad was preparing to start his senior year in college. It was by far my fathers worst academic year, and after grade inflation during the Vietnam war, it probably cost him a spot at the nations top law schools despite already having a PhD from Princeton. I don't know the cause of...

I love thanksgiving. I tend to forget how peaceful and quiet home really is.

It reminds me of a quote from Kurt Vonnegut's last book A Man Without a Country,

"So when we're drinking lemonade under an apple tree in the summer, say, and talking lazily about this and that, almost buzzing like honeybees, Uncle Alex would suddenly interrupt the agreeable blather and exclaim,...

A beautiful excerpt that I took the time to type up because I thought it would mean something to a lot of you:

"Far back in the impulses to find this story is a storyteller's belief that at times life takes on the shape of art and that the remembered remnets of these moments are largley what we come to mean by life....

Well, I hear people are going out drinking to-night. Sorry I haven't been in touch yet; what I thought was planned for the week ended up changing a bit. I thought I'd have more time by myself that I'd have to fill. I'll be here until Monday, though.

Either way, I definitely plan to come back. smile

By the by, this

The short semihumorous comedies we live, our long certain tragedies, and our springtime lyrics and limericks make up most of what we are.

reminds me very much of a few lines from one of my very favorite songs ever.

I've gotten out of class early, and I'm in a giving mood, so I think I will treat you all to a rare long journal entry. I also have a topic--my trip this weekend. For those of you that are lazy, there will be a pretty picture at the end which pretty much sums it up:

I refer to Sara, in the kindest way possible,...

Cool story. Seriously. I need to do more things like that. And I'm familiar with cold, and camping, but not with mountains--that'd be cool. (I'm a big fan of the photos as well, by the by.)

And yeah--Hell is cold, definitely (I would say, "I live in Minnesota; I'd know," but really, it doesn't get that cold here--at least not in the city, and at least not on a regular basis--still, though, I know enough of cold). I don't know what Dante was thinking with all that inferno crap. I'd take that over a hard winter any day. tongue

And you have a flask, eh? Do you like it?

your pictures remind me of montana!
