In the frontier spirit that this country was founded on, a 4th of July quote for you all:
"I was armed to the teeth with a pitiful little Smith & Wesson's seven-shooter, which carried a ball like a homeopathic pill, and it took the whole seven to make a dose for an adult. But I thought it was grand. It appeared to me to be... Read More
It's an abnormally beautiful day even by the standards of my own clime. I'm thinking about seasons.
In the first days of summer, I find something internal that I didn't know was missing. When I moved out to California I thought that was abandoning the seasons to live in a full time mild summer. This is certainly untrue. California removes the obvious and superficial demarcation... Read More
UGH.. I'd like living on that much land had it been kept up with over the years, but it's my Nana's house and it just ended up going to hell after the gardener had a heart attack and retired
And I live in north Philly-- right off Temple's campus.
Hi, I'm Amy
The many seasons.. theyre so wonderful.. right now its getting hot.. tomato season, and mine are getting ripe left and right! Also the petunias are in full bloom and so beautiful.. I love all the subtle seasons we have here as well..
Glad to see youre in good spirits, just wanted to say hello
I got the incredibly nerdy idea to make a list of the plants I have in my vegetable garden by family. It's interesting to see where plants lie relative to each other. You start to develop a feel for families, too. Last week, based on flower/leaf structure, as well as some internal gestalt, correctly surmised that a plant was in the pea family. (It turned... Last fourth of July, James and I went fishing. We had scouted a cove in a nearby lake that where fish had doing jumping jacks and were salivating at the prospects. For four hours we sat in the cove watching these fish continue their acrobatic show without utter disregard for anything that we threw their way. Live bait was our last... Read More
In the course of a 10 minute car ride, I had did a total 180 on the issue of new years resolutions. In the past I've done well with resolutions. I resolved to read at least 10 pages a night and have read dozens of books that I otherwise wouldn't have in doing so. During my senior year of college I resolved to get in... Read More
I'm always of the hope that there's ample wiggle room.
Also, I suppose it makes me a perv that I think that seeing the beauty in your companions in a dark cave has the potential to be kinda hot, but so be it.
There ain't a whole lot of room for geniuneness in this work. Set your patch of dirt and keep it.
Today's inspirational quote:
"A senior NCO in the special forces was telling the story. 'We was back at Bragg, in the NCO club, and this school-teacher comes in an' she's real good-lookin'. Dusty here grabs her by the shoulder and starts runnin' his tongue all... Read More
My fears...
~the dark, but I have that one about 90% aced... as of about 10 months ago.
~losing my Grams... as you already know.
~scorpions.
~18-wheelers.
~mediocridy
~complacence
~With the dark... I dunno... I guess I just worked through it. Confrontation followed by thorough analysis of what I was afraid of.
~Losing my Grams... I wouldn't say I'm "facing" that fear by any stretch of the imagination... I'm simply avoiding any thought of the idea as much as humanly possible.
~scorpions... see my last answer. Every time I talk about scorpions, I have a nightmare about them that night. Thanks a lot, man.
~18-wheelers... maybe I should try answer #1 with this one.
~I embrace who I am, enjoy the things that make me quirky, nerdy or weird... I work my ass off... and I can't answer for these last two fears in a journal comment.
Fears. I've been thinking a lot about the role they play in my life.
I suspect they play a fairly large role in others lives as well. My
biggest insecurity these days is mediocrity. One of the greatest
intuitions in the world to study physics, yet not a place where you
see a lot of people patting their backs.
